In Japan, it is customary to receive a goshuin stamp when visiting a temple. In addition, visitors to Ryuganji Temple can enjoy the unique experience of spinning a gacha machine to obtain Buddhist statues and implements.
Goshuin Stamps
Goshuin is a handwritten stamp, traditionally used as proof of one’s worship, dedication, and connection with Gods and Buddha in Buddhism.
If you bring your own goshuin stampbook, we will write directly on it. It is not possible to write a goshuin stamp in a notebook or a diary.
A. The protection of Amida Buddha
Buddhist words: 南無阿弥陀仏（I take refuge in Amida Buddha.）
Description: At Ryuganji Temple, we light candles daily and chant “Namu Amida Butsu” to offer prayers to the principal image, Amida Buddha. May the light of Amida Buddha become the light within our hearts.
This goshuin employs “wax paper” made by melting candles offered to Buddha, using the “Yuzen printing” technique.

B. Wishing for the Future
Buddhist words: 極楽来迎（Amitabha Buddha, please lead me to the Pure Land!）
Description: Here at Ryuganji Temple, we are trying to express the scene of Amitabha Buddha leading people to the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss by flying the Buddha on a drone.

C. Prayer for Peace
Buddhist words: 日月清明（May the sun and moon shine divinely!）
Description: Ryuganji Temple is known as the site of the residence where Shibukawa Harumi, the first person to create a calendar in Japan and the first astronomer of the Edo Shogunate, lived as a young man.
Price: 500 yen
Goshuin Stamp Book
This Goshuin Stamp Book is made of Nishijin-ori fabric and features illustrations of Ryuganji Temple’s various halls and the principal image of Amida Buddha. Above them is a star chart drawn by astronomer SHIBUKAWA Harumi, who lived here, and a dragon soaring into the heavens.
The price is 3,000 yen.

Original Gacha Machine
From the gacha machine, you can get a small and lovely lacquered Buddha statue (see photo below) and other Buddhist items. All of them are produced by Buddhist artisans.
The price to spin the gacha machine is 3,000 yen.
